SPES PTA VARIETY SHOW smashing success!

$3,713 raised for AAMC Fortney Breast Center

On behalf of the entire Variety Show committee, we would like to thank SPES PTA for putting on another astounding evening for our children! To the performers, we'd like to extend a HUGE thank you for a job well done! Thank you to everyone who volunteered in any capacity and all the parents for supporting your children's creative vision, all while juggling your own very busy schedules.  The kids' performances blew us away this year and we couldn't be more proud of them. Their support of one another is always so sweet and their joyful energy was contagious! Thank you to everyone who attended the show and supported your fellow classmates on Friday night.  We hope you had as much fun watching the show as we did putting it on. Also a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE thank you to all of the teachers who participated, including our awesome principal, Lorie Barnes! The bar was set ridiculously high this year and the children LOVED it!! Mrs. Merrill, along with her menagerie of talents displayed in all of the acts she performed in, never ceases to amaze us.  The Variety Show is so blessed to have such a dedicated champion!

Additionally, we raised a total of $3,713 in contributions in honor of Loretta Wilson, Jennifer Soverns and Jennifer McFarland.  WAY TO GO SPES FAMILY, you are always so generous!  They will be given to the AAMC Fortney Breast Center in their names and we are so grateful for your support.

We hope you all were as thrilled with the show as we were, and we can't wait to see you back next year! :-)

Many thanks,

Shannon Pearson, Joe Comer and Alison Dewalle

Readathon success!

 WE NEED YOU!

Chessie and Bobcat Book Club need you!

We need volunteers to talk with our Chessie Reading Club students about their books.  This is a fun and impactful way to get involved with your child's school.  Take less than 30 minutes at the start of your day to ask a student about their latest read.  Everyone leaves Chessie with a smile on their face and excited to read another.  Get in on the fun by volunteering.

Ready to take a quick morning or lunch break and discuss a good book?  Our 4th and 5th graders need volunteers Friday mornings in the Media Center or during 4th or 5th grade lunch for Lunch Bunch!  Pull up a chair and chat away.

We love our SPES Teachers!

Are you looking to show your teacher a little extra appreciation and/or find the perfect holiday gift for them?
The following are links to a school-wide classroom/cultural arts teacher "Favorites" list, as well as a link to classroom/cultural arts teachers Amazon Wish Lists compiled by the PTA.

Please note: These are living documents and will be updated by teachers as they are able to do so.  Maybe double check with your teacher to make sure they've updated their list for this school year before making a purchase!)

parent workshop video posted

Should I look at my 3rd grader's Google Classroom and check for missing assignments everyday? Do I need to sit next to my 1st grader all day while she is in her Google Meet to make sure she is paying attention to the teacher? How much time in the evening, and over the weekend, should my 5th grader be spending on completing his schoolwork? We all want to support our children so that they are successful at virtual learning, but are we actually helping? These questions were addressed at the recent SPES PTA Parent Workshop "How to Support Your Elementary Child During Virtual Learning".  If you missed it, don't worry, we recorded it and you can watch it at https://youtu.be/bID740bnqOQ.
